Volunteer
In March 2020, in alignment with the Riverside Park Conservancy and the NYC Parks Department, The Garden People suspended weekly volunteer sessions.  The group is currently hoping to resume activities in late 2021.   When group gardening activities resume, our normal volunteer sessions will be scheduled and posted on this website.

Visitors might see individual gardeners working in the garden distanced from one another. The Conservancy has authorized this practice for our existing members.
We hope visitors enjoy the season’s flowers and maintain the “social distance” of 6 feet from each other and from any gardeners.
Please avoid touching the fences as you try for a closer look at the flowers.
When normal group gardening activities are allowed once again our normal volunteer sessions will be scheduled and posted on this website.

When activities are normal once again, new volunteers are very welcome at all levels of gardening ability (including none whatsoever) and all levels of time commitment. Jobs that need constant attention and are vital to the health and appearance of the garden include: pruning and shaping plants, weeding, mowing, trimming the paths and borders, and deadheading spent blossoms. There are Volunteer Work Sessions weekly throughout the growing season.

See our schedule of volunteer meet-up work days here.

Because the garden is a mature perennial garden with plants in varying stages of development, we ask new volunteers to work under the guidance of experienced gardeners who know what is where, and what needs to be done.

We also have at least two full membership Work Days each year—Spring and Fall—when we take care of larger-scale garden maintenance such as fence-painting and compost turning.

If you are interested in volunteering in any capacity, or just have questions and want more information, please send us an email at: Volunteers@TheGardenPeople.org
